Why is this test performed?
Microsatellite Instability (MSI) Analysis is performed to assess for defects in the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) system by detecting alterations in microsatellite length within microsatellite regions of the genome. MSI status serves as an important molecular biomarker in the evaluation of several solid tumours and may provide clinically relevant information for treatment planning.
MSI testing is commonly performed in patients with:
Results should be interpreted in conjunction with histopathological findings, mismatch repair (MMR) protein testing, clinical history, and other relevant molecular investigations.
MICROSATELLITE INSTABILITY (MSI) ANALYSIS by Idylla™
AP MSI
Yes - Specialised
3 working days
3 working days
Single Test
Colorectal carcinoma, endometrial carcinoma, gastric carcinoma
MSI testing identifies tumors with deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) and is a predictive biomarker for response to immune checkpoint inhibitors.
Molecular
2-3x 5µm FFPE Tissue with at least 30% tumour cellularity
MSI testing detects instability within microsatellite regions of tumour DNA, which may indicate an underlying deficiency in DNA mismatch repair mechanisms.
MSI testing may be considered in patients with selected solid tumours for tumour characterisation and assessment of potential mismatch repair deficiency.
Testing is typically performed on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumour tissue. Refer to laboratory specimen requirements for submission criteria.
MSI results should be interpreted alongside clinical findings, histopathological assessment, and other relevant molecular or immunohistochemical investigations.
Please contact us at 6278 9188 to request for a hard copy of the PLS Guide.
This depends on the status of the sample. Please call us at 62789188 as soon as possible so that we can conduct the relevant checks on whether we can assist you with the request.
Yes, if a profile you are looking for is not an existing profile listed in our laboratory services guide, please email pls.marketing@parkwaylabs.com.sg so that we can specially tailor profiles to cater to your needs.
While we only accept samples during outpatient lab operating hours, samples continue to be processed after hours. For after hours inpatient specimens, samples will be sent through the Accident & Emergency department - additional charges will apply.
The fastest way is to make your request via Plexus. Alternatively, please call us at 62789188 to make your request.
In order to safeguard confidentiality, test results will only be released directly to the physician who ordered the tests. However, we can also release results to co-managing physicians if the physician who ordered the tests makes an indication to do so in the lab request form.
Billing invoices are usually issued on the 2nd or the beginning of each month.

Why is this test performed?
Microsatellite Instability (MSI) Analysis is a test used to look for changes in the way tumour cells repair damaged DNA. When the body's natural DNA repair system is not working properly, errors can build up in the genetic material of cancer cells, leading to a condition known as microsatellite instability (MSI).
Your doctor may recommend MSI testing if you have been diagnosed with, or are being evaluated for, certain cancers, including:
The results can provide additional information about the genomic profile of a tumour and may help guide further investigations or treatment planning.

Microsatellites are short repeated sections of DNA. When the body's DNA repair system is not functioning properly, changes can occur in these regions, resulting in microsatellite instability.
Your doctor may request MSI testing to better understand the genetic characteristics of a tumour and obtain information that may support treatment planning.
The test is usually performed on a tumour tissue sample collected during a biopsy or surgery.
The results indicate whether microsatellite instability is present in the tumour. Your doctor will explain how the findings relate to your specific condition and any further investigations or treatment considerations.
If you have consulted a doctor and the clinic has provided you with a completed laboratory request form, you may visit our outpatient labs for a blood test. Patients must produce the completed laboratory request form in order for us to proceed with the doctor's orders.
If you have not consulted a doctor, please do so. As blood test results are best interpreted with clinical findings and family history, you should seek a doctor’s advice so relevant tests for your condition are appropriately analysed. Besides visiting your family physician or specialist, you may wish to have the tests done at any of our Parkway Shenton Medical Group clinics located island wide. Or you may also opt to have tests done at Executive Health Screeners, located within our hospital premises.
After your consultation with the doctor, the clinic will assist to complete a laboratory request form and you may have your blood samples drawn either at the clinic or at one of our outpatient laboratories.
If the tests you are doing require fasting, you should fast for at least 12 hours after a normal meal.
You can drink plain water during the fasting period
You may visit us at any of our outpatient laboratories during office hours with a Laboratory Request Form signed by your doctor.
Your laboratory report will be sent to your doctor when completed.
Test results will only be released directly to the physician who ordered the tests. This is because test results need to be reviewed in consultation with a physician for an in depth explanation and interpretation of your results.
Laboratory results should only be interpreted together with clinical findings and family history, therefore your doctor is the best person to interpret your laboratory results.
Different tests have different turnaround time for the completion of the tests. It can range between an hour to 14 days. Please check with your doctor.
We accept cash, major credit cards and NETS.
