Test must be done at the outpatient lab.

Sample type:

1. Pre- and Post-urea breath samples in special collection bags.
2. Overnight fasting is required if test is to be carried out in the morning.
3. Minimum 4 hours of fasting is required if UBT is performed after 2pm.

Medication to Avoid:

1. UBT must not be performed within 28 days of completing treatment.
2. PPI, antibiotics and bismuth or any drugs used in monotherapy known to suppress urease activity of HP could give false negative results -14 days must lapse before UBT.
3. H2 antagonists should be avoided on the day of test.
4. Antacids and other medications with acid neutralizing effect should be avoided on the day of test.
