Please refer to our memo on MOH-approved use cases before choosing the appropriate test code as charges will differ based on the test code chosen (in line with MOH charging guidelines).

Please ensure that indications are stated in the test order via SCM Allscripts and our PLS Laboratory Request Form in order for us to proceed with the testing.
If an ‘Others’ category is stated, please ensure that clinical justifications are stated in SCM and on the PLS Laboratory Request Form. The justification for the ordering of this test will be subject to MOH audit.

We are unable to accede to any request for the testing for outpatient cases, be it for the well public or as part of general screening at the present time. The following are some examples where testing is not warranted:

  1. Elective or general health screening;
  2. Decision criterion to allow employees to return to work following from quarantine order; stay-home notice, or leave of absence; or
  3. Asymptomatic patients without valid clinical justifications.

Positive results:

  1. If PLS result is ‘Detected’, PLS will inform the GP clinic of the positive result.
  2. PLS shall also:
  • Report confirmed result to the MOH Surveillance Duty Officer of the Communicable Diseases Division at 9817 1463 immediately; and
  • Notify via the submission of the MD131 Notification of Infectious Diseases Form through the Communicable Diseases Live & Enhanced Surveillance (CDLENS) system at http://www.cdlens.moh.gov.sg or fax the MD131 form to MOH at 6221 5528/ 6221 5538/ 6221 5567.
Sample Requirement:

One nasopharyngeal swab to be taken by the ordering doctor. Swabs are to be transported in 3mL universal transport media (UTM).

Please indicate sample source and indications (if any) on the laboratory request form.

Samples are to be labelled with patient labels clearly and double-bagged.

Place the completed Lab Request Form in the side pouch of the outermost biohazard bag. 

Samples taken after despatch hours can be stored overnight in the fridge at 2-8°C for next day collection. Swab samples in UTM are stable for 48 hours at 2-25°C. 

For the safety of our staff, PLS reserves the right to reject specimens at the point of despatch collection if leakage is evident. 

For despatch requests, please inform us that there is/are COVID-19 sample(s) for collection and the quantity. Our despatcher will need to bring cooler boxes along for COVID-19 sample collection.
